Virginia Dems Chair Susan Swecker Expects Kamala Harris’ Margin of Victory to Widen, Given “127,000 outstanding provisional ballots, with over 50 percent of these in 17 strong Democratic localities”

Interesting analysis from DPVA Chair Susan Swecker on the 2024 election results in Virginia:

Hello,

I know the past two days have been challenging. And although the outcome was not what we had all hoped for nationally, I hope you are proud as I am about all of our work and success here in Virginia. While it is easy to speak in generalities about the national outcome, I want to take a moment to focus on what all of you accomplished here in Virginia.

The results in Virginia prove that organizing and investing in every part of the Commonwealth matters. Donald Trump gained much less ground in Virginia than in most other blue states where money was not spent on TV ads, including New Jersey, where Trump gained 10.9%, Connecticut (8.9%), New York (10.6%), and Maryland (10.3%). That is a testament to our robust ground game.

Right now, Kamala Harris has won Virginia with a wider margin than Hillary Clinton in 2016, which is not the case in a majority of other states. There are currently over 127,000 outstanding provisional ballots, with over 50 percent of these in 17 strong Democratic localities. With this, we expect our margin of victory to widen

Here are some other facts:

    • Virginia held its 6 to 5 majority Congressional delegation, with Eugene Vindman winning one of the most competitive races in the country.
    • Chesterfield County is the largest county in the United States where Kamala Harris gained more ground compared to 2020.
    • Democrats broke 100,000 votes in the 9th Congressional District, which hasn’t been done in over a decade.
    • Salem City kept its 2020 margin despite Trump closing his campaign there.
    • Staunton City shifted almost three points to the left from 2020 after Hung Cao called the area “podunk.”
    • Harris won Stafford County after going red in 2023 and 2021.
    • Once all of the votes are in, we will likely be one of the only states to have surpassed the top-rated pre-election poll.

Thank you for dedicating your time to this fight. The Commonwealth is in a much better position because of you all. After the final votes are counted and I have taken time, like you, to gather my thoughts, I will have more to say. We will always fight to defend our freedoms, values, and the Constitution. Talk soon.

Susan
