Representatives Bobby Scott (D-VA03) and Gerry Connolly (D-VA11) weigh in on Trump’s executive order which “limits the departments and classifications of federal workers who can organize a union and instructs the government to stop engaging in any collective bargaining.”

Scott, Connolly Statement on Trump Destroying Union Rights

WASHINGTON, D.C.
 – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Ranking Member of the Committee on Education and Workforce, and Congressman Gerald E. Connolly (VA-11), the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement on President Trump’s union busting Executive Order:

This executive order is another example of the Trump-Musk Administration’s war on working people. These two billionaires busted unions in their day jobs and now they’re bringing these same attacks to our government in the biggest presidential attack on unions in history. Since the enactment of the National Labor Relations Act nearly 90 years ago, workers have been empowered to come together and form unions to win higher pay, better safety standards, and claim a voice in their workplaces as they protect workers from abuse and misuse by unscrupulous employers.

“President Trump’s brazen attempt to strip the majority of federal employees of their union rights robs these workers of their hard-fought protections. This will only give Elon Musk more power to dismantle the people’s government with as little resistance from dedicated civil servants as possible—further weakening the federal government’s ability to serve the American people.  The United States government was built to be by the people for the people – not by billionaires for other billionaires.”

STATEMENT OF U.S. SENS. MARK R. WARNER AND TIM KAINE

~ On Trump executive order attacking collective bargaining rights for federal workers ~

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner, Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) issued a statement in response to President Trump’s latest attack on the federal workforce – an executive order targeting collective bargaining rights:

“This is just another attempt by President Trump to ‘traumatize’ and illegally fire federal workers. Collective bargaining makes the federal workforce stronger, and undermining these rights does nothing to improve our national security. In fact, this order will only make us less safe, as this executive order is only Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s latest gambit to make it easier to fire the people who ensure public safety, prepare for pandemics, respond to natural disasters, and much, much more. This political attack on our civil servants must not stand.”

Spanberger Statement on President Trump’s Executive Order to End Collective Bargaining Rights for Federal Workers

Spanberger: “I Believe that Our Leaders Should be Focused on Making the Commonwealth Safer and More Affordable — Not Undermining Virginians’ Rights”

RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement in response to President Trump’s executive order ending collective bargaining rights for more than one million federal workers — including thousands of Virginians.

“Virginia is home to thousands of dedicated federal employees who work tirelessly every day to strengthen our communities, care for our Veterans, and keep our communities safe. These nonpartisan professionals devote their careers to serving our nation, and they deserve a workplace safe from political interference or retaliation.

“Ending these protections threatens the livelihoods of families in communities across the Commonwealth, risks politicizing some of our country’s most consequential roles, and does nothing to make our government more efficient. Our leaders should be focused on making the Commonwealth safer and more affordable — not undermining Virginians’ rights.”
