Virginia Dems Blast Trump’s/Hegseth’s “Dangerous [National] Security Breach”: “Breathtaking incompetence”; “Heads must roll”; “national embarrassment”; “put lives and missions at risk”

Silence from Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02), Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA01), etc.

Can anyone even IMAGINE the reaction by the media and by Republicans if something insane like this (“U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.“) happened in a *Democratic* administration, whether Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris or ANY Democrat? They’d be going *apeshit*,  yelling TREASON, calling for BLOOD, etc.  But it’s the Trump administration, so…whatever? No comment by Republicans? No dozens if not hundreds of outraged op-eds, editorials, etc. in the newspaper? But yeah, this is bonkers:

  • Sen. Mark Warner: “Make no mistake: our allies are reading this war-plan-disclosure story too, and it’s making it less and less likely that they’ll want to share sensitive intel with us…” “This administration is playing fast and loose with our nation’s most classified info, and it makes all Americans less safe.”
  • Sen. Tim Kaine: “But her emails…” “I am gravely concerned that senior national security officials, including the Vice President and the Secretary of Defense, coordinated military strikes in Yemen over a commercial and unclassified app. Accidentally including a random person in the chat demonstrates a profound carelessness for the lives of the servicemembers conducting operations against the Houthis.”
  • Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA08): “Heads must roll. This is one of the dumbest security breaches in history, and it suggests a larger pattern of potentially criminal behavior that puts Americans at risk.” “The Trump Administration, which just committed one of the biggest and most incompetent national security breaches in history, is also giving Elon Musk and his team of unvetted lackeys access to every American’s personal information.”
  • Rep. Eugene Vindman (D-VA07): “Trump’s team didn’t just make a mistake — it put lives and missions at risk. The American people did not vote for this.”
  • Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA11):Breathtaking incompetence. What else may have been exposed? Nuclear codes? Detailed war plans with other adversaries? If this doesn’t demand congressional action @SpeakerJohnson, I don’t know what does.”
  • Rep. Jennifer McClellan (D-VA04): “I’m outraged by the constant recklessness coming from Pete Hegseth, our least qualified Secretary of Defense to date. This is a national embarrassment, not to mention a dangerous security breach.”

I’ll add more as I see them…but don’t hold your breath waiting for any condemnation by Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA01), Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02), Rep. John McGuire (R-VA05), Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA06), Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA09), Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, etc.

“But her emails…” – Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine
