Elected Leaders Call on Winsome Earle-Sears to Stand Up to Attacks on Medicaid and Access to Affordable Healthcare
Potential cuts to Medicaid put access to affordable healthcare at risk for thousands of Virginians

VIRGINIA – Today, ahead of the anniversary of Medicaid expansion in Virginia, elected leaders called out Winsome Earle-Sears for her silence following Republicans voting for cuts to Medicaid as part of Donald Trump’s agenda. Sears has declined to comment on the proposed cuts which would result in more than 200,000 Virginians losing their insurance.
“As Republicans in Congress are on the brink of making healthcare costs higher and making it even harder to get by for Virginia families, Winsome Earle-Sears has stayed silent. She has refused to comment on any of the potential cuts and has stood by as Virginians face uncertainty. She’d rather play political games than fight for Virginians. That’s not leadership,” said Delegate Katrina Callsen.
“For Virginians, these cuts to Medicaid would be devastating and the Commonwealth deserves a leader who understands that. Sears owes Virginians answers about why she isn’t fighting to protect Medicaid and why she won’t speak out against the cuts that could hurt thousands of Virginians,” said Charlottesville Mayor Juandiego Wade.
“Right now, thousands of Virginians are facing instability and uncertainty and unfortunately, Republican leaders don’t seem to care. They are our neighbors and friends, the elderly, disabled, children, and many who work but do not earn enough to pay for insurance. Winsome Earle-Sears won’t even acknowledge the situation that so many are facing. Her silence is deafening and shows once again she won’t fight for Virginians,” said Former Delegate and Democratic Minority Leader David Toscano.
