Thanks to VA11 Democratic committee member Laura Stokes – one of the top “Winners” in our VA11 Democratic primary “Winners/Losers” list for her role in helping to organize the successful VA11 Democratic “firehouse primary” – for these graphics (see below) breaking down turnout by age (average age was approximately 63, with 61% age 58 or older and 75% age 46 or older), gender (57% women) and party affiliation (74.8% strong Democratic, 13.2% lean Democratic, just 2.1% lean Republican and just 3.9% independent). Also, apparently the racial composition of the electorate was heavily white (I’ve heard it might have been as high as 80%, but that’s mostly anecdotal from people who were at the polls), despite Fairfax County being “majority minority” in its population (see below and here for demographic data), and even more so if you just look at Fairfax Democrats. Anything else jump out at you?
P.S. See here for the full results of the election, which saw turnout of 37,624 voters…a new all-time record for Virginia Democratic “firehouse primaries” (easily beating the previous record of about 28k in the December 2022 VA04 “firehouse primary” after the death of Rep. Donald McEachin)…
