Walkinshaw Demands FCC Chair Carr Resign and Congress Investigate Unconstitutional Actions

Fairfax, VA — Congressman James R. Walkinshaw, a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today called for Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr to resign and demanded a full congressional investigation into what he described as “corrupt, unconstitutional, and dangerous assaults on free speech.”

“This week, we saw Jimmy Kimmel canceled. Now Trump’s allies are going after The View,” Walkinshaw said. “The First Amendment is the foundation of our Democracy. Freedom of speech is the foundation of our Democracy. The Trump administration is taking a sledgehammer to those freedoms. This is what authoritarian regimes do, not what we do in America. I am demanding the FCC Chair resign, and Congress subpoena Mr. Carr and investigate these corrupt and unconstitutional actions.”

Carr made headlines Thursday during an appearance on conservative commentator Scott Jennings’ podcast, where he suggested that the FCC should review whether The View deserves its exemption as a bona fide news program, a status that shields it from equal time requirements. His comments came just days after President Trump celebrated Jimmy Kimmel’s cancellation on Truth Social, posting:

“Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!”

On Thursday, Walkinshaw and House Oversight Committee Democrats attempted to subpoena Carr to testify, but Republicans on the Committee blocked the measure.

“Today it’s comedians making a joke, but the Administration won’t stop there,” Walkinshaw warned. “Chairman Comer and House Republicans must stop shielding Trump’s cronies and join Democrats in demanding answers for this blatant constitutional abuse.”
