See below for video of Rep. James Walkinshaw (D-VA11) providing highlights from his first few days in Congress. Highlights include:
- “Was sworn in…Wednesday. I gave my first floor speech and was booed by House Republicans; I think they didn’t like the fact that I told the truth about the failed Trump policies and what they’re doing to our economy here locally and the economy nationally.”
- “I signed a couple discharge petitions…the one that gets the most attention…is the discharge petition…to end Trump’s coverup of the Epstein files. But actually the first discharge petition I signed is for legislation that would restore the collective bargaining rights that Trump stripped from federal employees – that was the first thing I did.”
- “I also introduced a piece of legislation to limit the president, any president’s ability to downsize, restructive, dismantle federal agencies; if they reduce the workforce by 5% or more, they have to come to Congress for an up-or-down vote – it would have prevented what we’ve seen Trump do to Dept. of Education, CFPB, USAID and other agencies…”
Great stuff; really glad that James Walkinshaw’s on the job, carrying on Gerry Connolly’s legacy – including standing up for his district, for federal workers, etc.
