Attorney and Civil Rights Advocate Adele Stichel Announces Run for Congress in Virginia’s Fifth District

Stichel joins two other Dems in the race to take on insurrectionist/far-right-extremist Rep. John McGuire (R) in this deep-red district

With the following announcement by Adele Stichel, there are now at least three Democrats (two others I’m aware of are Mike Pruitt and Paul Riley) running for the nomination to take on the horrendously awful, insurrectionist/extremist/MAGA fanatic Rep. John McGuire (R-VA05).  This is a district which Trump won by 12 points and even Hung Cao won by 10 points, so it’s a long shot (the DCCC doesn’t have VA05 on its list of possible districts to flip next year), but still, McGuire has ZERO business being in Congress, so let’s hope Democrats nominate a really strong candidate next year to at least make the case against that guy…

Adele Stichel is ready to take on corporate control of Washington and fight for Central Virginia Families.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Today, Adele Stichel announced her candidacy for Virginia’s Fifth Congressional District. A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Adele has long focused on fighting for justice for all Americans. From working with Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr., to advocating for charges against violent white supremacists after Charlottesville’s 2017 “Summer of Hate,” Adele has consistently stood up for what she believes is right.

Adele Stichel, candidate for Congress in VA-05, has released the following statement:

“I’m running for Congress because I believe this country can and should work for everyone, not just corporations and billionaires. Central Virginians are working harder than ever, yet most people can’t get ahead. Prices and housing costs keep going up. Health care costs are rising dramatically, while insurance companies make patients jump through an ever-increasing number of hoops to actually get care.

Politicians on both sides of the aisle so often can’t seem to name the problem—that the system is rigged against working people—because they don’t want to upset big donors and powerful corporations.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We can make it easier for Central Virginians to buy houses, support families, and start small businesses. We can come together and demand a system that serves all of us. I’ve always stood up for what’s right, and I’m ready to take that fight to the halls of Congress.”

Adele Stichel is running for Congress because she believes that this country can and should work for all Americans, not just corporations and billionaires.

A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Adele has long focused on fighting for justice for all Americans. Adele has done street outreach and HIV prevention work, served as an assistant to the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., advocated for charges against violent white supremacists after Charlottesville’s 2017 “Summer of Hate,” and led legal observer teams to support those exercising their First Amendment rights.

Most recently, Adele worked as a lawyer.  She helped conduct sensitive internal investigations and advise individuals, companies, and nonprofit organizations facing allegations of misconduct. Put more simply, Adele helped sort out the facts in messy, often high-profile situations and figure out the best way forward.

Adele and her husband, Seth, are proud to call Charlottesville home. They are often joined by Adele’s sister, Helen, and their shared dog, Colby. Adele likes spending time on the Downtown Mall and jogging on back roads with views of the Blue Ridge.
