Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA05) really nails it on this; the fact is that – despite what they think over at the Bari Weiss (“a cynical, corrupt and deeply unserious character who is partisan, frivolous and incompetent”)/MAGA-pilled CBS “News”:
“News should be facts-based regardless of who it ‘upsets’. And many journalists lack critical thinking or sourcing expertise also. Scary combo. Reading off a teleprompter shouldn’t be the only skill set.”
On a related note, is there any reason why: a) Democrats can’t invest heavily in developing their own media, as right wingers have done for decades; b) Democrats keep going on these anti-Democratic, anti-democracy, pro-Trump networks; c) Democrats keep assuming that the corporate/pro-Trump (explicitly or implicitly) media is their friend (because it’s definitely not!)?
By the way, if you think that the solution is NPR or PBS, consider the fact that those networks are relentlessly “both sides”/false-equivalence at best, de facto anti-Democratic at worst (with tons of “sanewashing” and whitewashing of Trump’s insane speeches, etc. for good measure). For instance, how many times did PBS and/or NPR report on the ridiculous Hunter Biden non-story? (spoiler: MANY times) And how many times did they run stories about how Joe Biden was…wait for it…old? (again, spoiler: MANY times) Now, think about how many times you’ve seen or heard PBS or NPR report on the *massive* corruption of the Trump family (Eric, Don Jr, etc.) – orders of magnitude worse than anything Hunter Biden did, or ever dreamed of doing? How many times did these networks report, prominently, on the moronic “HER EMAILS” story about Hillary Clinton in 2016, compared to how many times they’ve reported on the infinitely worse security breaches by Trump, Hegseth, etc? I mean, I could literally go on all day about this, yet here we are, with so many Democrats still swearing by public media, or even *corporate* media (the increasingly Murdoch-like Bezos Post, for instance)? It’s just maddening…
