RICHMOND, VA – Today, Speaker of the House of Delegates, Don Scott and Senate President Pro Tempore, L. Louise Lucas, announced they will take action at Joint Rules next Tuesday to convene a Joint Session of the Virginia General Assembly for Governor Abigail Spanberger to deliver an address following her swearing-in as Governor.

The Joint Session will take place on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 4:00pm in the House Chamber at the Virginia State Capitol.

“Calling the General Assembly together for this address is an important tradition and a meaningful and historic moment for the Commonwealth,” said Speaker Don Scott.

“It gives Virginians the opportunity to hear directly from their new Governor as we begin this next chapter for Virginia and prepare for the work ahead,” said President Pro Tempore, L. Louise Lucas.

Also, here’s a schedule for the 2026 General Assembly, per GMU – the first day is next Wednesday, with a swearing-in ceremony on Monday.
