VA06 Democratic Candidate and “Dopesick” Author Beth Macy Reports Over $600k Raised in 4Q25, Which “nears incumbent Ben Cline’s total amount raised for 2024”

This is "an unprecedented level of investment for a Democrat in the Sixth District in recent history"

Wow, very impressive fundraising (over $600,000 in the four quarter of 2025) by VA06 Democratic candidate Beth Macy (whose book, “Dopesick,” I just read and strongly recommend, btw). For comparison purposes, in the entire 2024 election in VA06, Democratic nominee Ken Mitchell raised $243,000; and in 2022, Democratic nominee Jennifer Lewis spent $150,000. Even more impressive, as Macy’s press release (see below) states, “Macy will also report more cash-on-hand in just six weeks than Cline after seven years in Congress.” That’s right – per the FEC, Cline had only $401k cash-on-hand as of 9/30/25. So now, the big question is, what will VA06 look like in the next election? Will Democrats redistrict it in a 10D-1R map, or will they go for a slightly more conservative 9D-2R map, in which VA09 and VA06 remain safely “red?” Stay tuned…

BETH MACY WILL REPORT UNPRECEDENTED FUNDRAISING HAUL OF OVER $600,000 FOR VA-6 CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN

Macy is a New York Times-bestselling author of Dopesick and Factory Man, along with other titles. Her work focuses on undertold stories in rural America.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 6, 2026

ROANOKE, VA — Beth Macy will report a whopping $615,000 raised in the first quarter of her campaign, an unprecedented level of investment for a Democrat in the Sixth District in recent history. Her impressive haul since announcing her campaign November 18 far surpasses the 2024 Democratic nominee’s total amount raised, and nears incumbent Ben Cline’s total amount raised for 2024. Macy will also report more cash-on-hand in just six weeks than Cline after seven years in Congress.

“Across Virginia’s Sixth District and the country, people are telling us they want change. They want leaders who won’t bow down in the face of obstacles, and who aren’t just talking heads for a political party that has failed to deliver on its promises,” said Macy. “While billionaires are consolidating wealth, the middle class is disappearing, and politicians aren’t doing a single thing about it. Our campaign represents an opportunity to make that change and elect a leader for the middle class, not the billionaire class. I am so grateful for this tremendous support to make that happen.”

Macy, who does not take corporate PAC money, has raised these funds through more than 4,800 donations, 79% of which were under $100.

Beth Macy is continuing her Listening Tour in Page County on Wednesday, January 7 at 7:30pm. She has held sessions in Roanoke, Fincastle, Waynesboro, and Clifton Forge. A full list of her upcoming events can be found here.

A former Roanoke Times reporter and author of Dopesick and other books, Beth Macy is known for lifting up the voices of working people. Her reporting has chronicled the effects of job loss, addiction, corporate greed, and political indifference on rural communities. She is running for Congress to bring those stories—and the people behind them—to the halls of Congress.
