Virginia Beach, VA – Today, Affordable Virginia launched the first of four ads as part of a $2 million paid media campaign, including TV, radio, and digital, calling on Rep. Jen Kiggans to stand up to the Trump administration and defend veterans’ benefits and lower health care costs for working families.
The first ad features Ken Sutton, a Navy veteran, who retired in Virginia Beach after 21 years of active duty. Today, he works with FEMA and volunteers with other veterans to help them access their benefits. The ad calls out Rep. Kiggans for voting to slash health care programs that veterans rely on.
“I am extremely proud of my 21 years of service in the US Navy, and I am also proud of my brothers and sisters in uniform who served with me, and continue to serve – but Rep. Kiggans is letting us down,” said Ken Sutton, Navy veteran and Virginia Beach resident. “I’m one of the lucky ones, I haven’t had the problems that so many others have had accessing services at the VA, or just adjusting to civilian life. Rep. Kiggans is a veteran, and she’s supposed to be working for us, but she keeps voting for policies that hurt veterans. It’s time for her to stop propping up this administration and fight for veterans like me.”

Duty, honor, country.
I served 21 years in the Navy.
I was a gunner’s mate in Vietnam.
We all are responsible for that promise that we were going to take care of our veterans when they came home.
But Congresswoman Jen Kiggans cut veterans’ healthcare.
Where is your moral compass, Congresswoman?
She takes benefits away from veterans to give tax breaks to billionaires.
She is not serving Virginia families or veterans like me.
Virginia has one of the highest percentages of veterans in the country, with Rep. Kiggans’ district being home to the most veterans in the Commonwealth. This past year, Rep. Kiggans has:
- Voted to slash health care for 260,000 Medicaid recipients in Virginia, including 47,000 Virginia veterans who rely on Medicaid.
- Voted against restoring health care tax credits, impacting 326,000 Virginians who are currently facing steep premium hikes due to the expiration of the credits in 2025.
- Openly praised the current Administration for their work in slashing tens of thousands of Veterans Affairs jobs.
Affordable Virginia is calling on Rep. Jen Kiggans to change course and stop cutting veterans’ health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires.
