CLARKE COUNTY, VA — Today, Former Delegate Wendy Gooditis announced that she is ending her campaign for Congress. Read her full statement below:

“Today I’ve made the decision to end my campaign for US Congress,” said Wendy Gooditis. “As a steadfast Virginia Democrat and as someone who cares deeply about the well-being of our Commonwealth’s residents, I strongly approve of the newly released map of congressional districts. Under this new map, my home has been drawn into a district with a strong incumbent who represents our values. I am so pleased that Suhas Subramanyam will be my Congressman. He will continue to work hard for our communities and stand up to Trump’s attack on our Democracy. We must use every tool we have to stop the destruction being caused by the Trump administration. This new map would be a huge step towards winning the majority in the House, which is vital to halting the chaos coming from the White House. Those of us who understand what an emergency this is now must do everything in our power to ensure this new map successfully passes. All Democrats must stand together during this emergency, and that is why I am proud to support Representative Subramanyam in his re-election campaign and I urge all other voters in this new district to support the redistricting referendum so we can flip the House and stop the destruction.“

Wendy Gooditis is the daughter of two union members, a former public-school teacher, and a former Virginia Delegate from western Virginia. Watching her brother, Brian, die too early in life after struggling to get him proper health care was the catalyst that Wendy needed to get off the sidelines and take a more direct approach to changing the system that had failed her brother. Wendy flipped a Republican district in a Republican portion of the Commonwealth in 2017, with grassroots support and the courage to speak about how our elected officials were failing us. Wendy went on to win two more nailbiter elections, in 2019 and 2021, against self-funding candidates who spent millions of dollars to unseat her. As a Delegate, she worked to provide healthcare coverage to 400,000 Virginians and helped pass a law for the mandatory reporting of child abuse. Wendy lives in Clarke County with her husband Chris, where they have raised two children.
