Rep. James Walkinshaw Launches Re-Election Campaign for Virginia’s (New) 11th Congressional District

The current VA11 is a compact Fairfax seat; the new VA11 stretches from Chain Bridge precinct in Fairfax County to Rockingham and Shenandoah counties, but is still solid blue

See below for a press release from Rep. James Walkinshaw (D-VA11), who has been doing a great job (like a younger version of Gerry Connolly – feisty, smart, tenacious, arguably more progressive than his mentor) and richly deserves reelection!

As for what the new VA11 will look like, if Virginia Democrats’ redistricting map passes Virginia Supreme Court muster and is approved by voters in late April, see State Navigate (and see below for screenshots). Now, clearly, this district looks a LOT different than the current one Rep. Walkinshaw represents (a compact Fairfax County/Fairfax City district), with the new one stretching from Chain Bridge to Rockingham and Shenandoah counties (via Prince William, Fauquier, Rappahannock, and Warren). So Rep. Walkinshaw will need to introduce himself to people who don’t know him, and possibly face off against current Congressman from VA05, far-right/insurrectionist Rep. John McGuire (R), who has been drawn out of his seat (couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy – lol). In the end, though, this new district went nearly 14 points for Kamala Harris in 2024 and 25 points for Abigail Spanberger in 2025, so Walkinshaw should be fine.

Congressman James Walkinshaw Launches Re-Election Campaign for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District

Fairfax, VA — Today, Congressman James Walkinshaw officially announced his campaign for re-election to represent Virginia’s 11th Congressional District.

“When I ran in last summer’s special election to succeed my mentor, the late Congressman Gerry Connolly, I made a promise: I would fight for Virginia families, defend our democracy by putting a check on the reckless Trump Administration, and work to build an economy that works for all,” said Walkinshaw. “I have kept that promise.”

“As the only Democrat on both the House Oversight and Homeland Security Committees, I have worked every day to hold the administration accountable, protect federal workers, defend the rule of law, and lower costs for hardworking Virginia families. But this work is far from finished.”

Walkinshaw emphasized that the stakes could not be higher.

“We are at a pivotal moment for our democracy,” he said. “In the coming months, I will be campaigning vigorously to protect fair representation and ensure every Virginian’s voice is heard. I’m also energized by the opportunity to represent communities from my home in Fairfax to the Shenandoah Valley, including the community that raised me – Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.”

Congressman James Walkinshaw is a lifelong Virginian and graduate of Unity-Reed High School in Manassas. He served more than a decade as Chief of Staff to the late Congressman Gerry Connolly, where he worked to pass the Affordable Care Act, secure critical investments for Virginia, and deliver for federal workers. As a Member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, he led efforts to ban guns from libraries and rec centers, extend tax relief to seniors and military families, and reduce carbon emissions. He was elected to Congress in a Special Election on September 9, 2025, after winning a 10-way Special Democratic Primary with 60% of the vote.
