Video: Sen. Tim Kaine Is Appalled That Trump’s Paying “$1 billion of federal taxpayer [money]” to an Energy Company to NOT Build Offshore Wind Power

"This is a giveaway to campaign contributors who were the major funders of his presidential campaign."

Yesterday, in his weekly press availability, Sen. Tim Kaine had the following to say about Donald Trump’s corrupt, moronic, self-defeating, batsh***-crazy energy policy. Check it out.

“It was an exciting announcement this week when Dominion announced that the offshore wind farm off Virginia Beach is now putting power onto the grid with the completion and full operation of the first two turbines. But it’s amazing that at the same time Donald Trump is undertaking action driving up everybody’s energy costs, he’s trying to stop clean native offshore wind in Virginia and elsewhere. I mean, it’s just remarkable. The president, as you know, issued a stop-work order on the offshore wind development after billions had already been spent. He tried to stop the work. The proponents of the project obtained a preliminary injunction in federal court in Norfolk. Senator Warner and I and Congressman Scott filed an amicus brief in that district court proceeding to support the preliminary injunction. The court granted the injunction. And Dominion, as it should have, powered forward then to go ahead and keep building these turbines. And now clean energy is being produced. Clean, reliable energy for the long haul that will reduce our reliance, our need to rely on oil from the Middle East or anywhere else. But President Trump is still trying to stop it.  The news this week, the same day that we announced that the Virginia offshore project was finally putting energy on the Virginia Power Grid, the news broke that President Trump had paid a billion dollars to a French firm to get them to stop their offshore wind projects being developed off the New England and North Carolina coasts and instead invest in natural gas. Why would you pay a billion dollars of federal taxpayer dollars? Why would you give it to an oil company, an energy company in exchange for them agreeing to stop the development of an offshore wind projects and instead focus on natural gas? It is completely ridiculous. The only reason the president is doing this is because he told oil and gas companies when he was running for president  that he would try to stop wind and solar. This is a giveaway to campaign contributors who were the major funders of his presidential campaign. There is no other explanation for it. Any president who wants America to be strong in energy and self-reliant produce native energy might want natural gas to be developed – of course, all of the above [Lowell’s note: I *strongly* disagree with Sen. Kaine on this point; in fact, we need to get off fossil fuels, including super-polluting/not-clean-at-all natural gas, ASAP!] – but wouldn’t be stopping solar and wind projects. And so the president this week, get this, on the energy side, as costs are going up, the president is stopping American offshore wind, the president is giving sanctions relief to Iran. We’re  at war with Iran on a presidential say-so and also…”
