NEW TV Ad: Terry for Virginia and Everytown Release New Ad Featuring Newport News Sheriff Gabe Morgan

Glenn Youngkin Has Pledged to Oppose Any Gun Safety Laws, Would Oppose Laws That Keep Guns Out of Hands of Criminals, Putting Law Enforcement At Risk

MCLEAN, VA – Terry for Virginia and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund today released a new television ad, “Trust.” The ad features Newport News Sheriff Gabe Morgan reminding Virginia voters that McAuliffe is the candidate who will keep the Commonwealth safe. Sheriff Morgan was the head of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association when McAuliffe was governor, and McAuliffe was the first governor in Virginia history to be named an honorary sheriff.

“As governor, my priority always was and always will be keeping Virginians safe. That’s why I supported law enforcement, increasing pay and funding for training in each of my budgets, and made Virginia the safest large state in the nation,” said Terry McAuliffe. “I’ve laid out a clear plan to keep Virginians safe and keep guns out of dangerous hands, but if Glenn Youngkin has his way his plans would slash funding for public safety and make Virginians less safe.”

“When it comes to gun safety, Virginia voters face a stark choice — Terry McAuliffe, who stood up for law enforcement by backing laws that keep guns away from dangerous criminals, or Glenn Youngkin, who wants to roll back those same life-saving laws,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to partner with Terry McAuliffe, who will fight to keep Virginia families safe.”

In April of this year, Glenn Youngkin pledged to “stand up against” and veto any and all common-sense gun safety laws passed by Virginia’s legislature. That includes laws intended to disarm violent domestic abusers, like the law passed last year that prohibits a person convicted of assault and battery of a family member from purchasing, possessing, or transporting a firearm for three years following their conviction. Youngkin has also clearly stated there is no common-sense gun safety legislation he would support, which would lead to more guns on the Commonwealth’s streets and put Virginians’ lives at risk.

Terry McAuliffe made Virginia the safest large state in the country as governor – investing in law enforcement and supporting strong gun safety laws to keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals and domestic abusers. McAuliffe is running on a strong platform of not only supporting Virginia’s common-sense gun safety legislation passed in the last two years but also continuing to build on this progress, by expanding Virginia’s background check law and keeping guns out of the hands of those convicted of hate crimes. Terry has, and always will be, a champion for gun violence prevention, and he was the first southern governor to be elected after proudly running with an “F” rating from the NRA.

TRANSCRIPT

Sheriff Morgan: I was head of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association when Terry McAuliffe was Governor. And let me tell you, there’s no one I trust more than Terry McAuliffe to keep our commonwealth safe.

Sheriff Morgan: He increased our funding, expanded training, and always had our backs. In fact, we named him honorary sheriff — first governor in Virginia history.

Sheriff Morgan: Terry knows how to keep us safe, because that’s what he’s always done. And don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise.
