A few minutes ago, State Senator Jennifer Boysko and Del. Suhas Subramanyam spoke (see video, below) about being “extremely alarmed” by AG Jason Miyares apparently engaged in a “quid pro quo scheme to rig the Loudoun County schools investigation” (for more on that, see here:

In an email obtained by 8News, Carlton Davis, special assistant to the attorney general for investigations, said “when the Loudoun County investigation wraps up in a few months, assuming it is done well and the AG looks good (as is the hope/expectation on my end), as mentioned a couple of times, I’d be very interested in working the University’s Counsel’s office.”

Miyares announced an investigation into the Loudoun County School Board the day he was sworn in — a campaign promise after a sexual assault involving a student was reportedly mishandled by school officials.

According to Del. Subramanyam, “in return for rigging the investigation to make the AG look good, the AG’s firing non-political attorneys… and handing out promotions to people who do his bidding.” Del. Subramanyam called Miyares’ actions a “gross abuse of power and a breach of trust,” and said Miyares should “apologize and…reverse course on his plans to use the tragic events in Loudoun County for pure political gain.” Del. Subramanyam added that “everything’s on the table right now” to learn more about what’s going on in the AG’s office.

Sen. Boysko added that Miyares on his first day in office “cleaned house” of “non-political” “civil servants who had been there serving our Commonwealth for years.” Then, Sen. Boysko noted, Miyares “fired a top UVA lawyer who was assigned to investigate the Capitol riots on January 6th without being able to answer why.” “Next, we heard yesterday that the Deputy AG in charge of election issues had posted statements referring to the January 6th rioters as ‘patriots’ and has repeatedly espoused unfounded conspiracy theories about voter fraud and election interference over months.” Now, “the AG’s office in the midst of a quid pro quo with the special assistant for investigations, promises him that the Loudoun investigation will be ‘done well’ and that the AG will ‘look good’ job in hopes that he’s going to receive a job in the future…This is a clearly alarming trend coming out of the AG’s office.” According to Sen. Boysko, “we absolutely need to explore our options” regarding what to do next.
