See below for a press release from Del. Eileen Filler-Corn’s “Energized for Change” PAC about a new poll by Public Policy Polling (PPP). The poll’s findings include:

  • By a 43%-34% margin, Virginians approve of Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s job performance so far.
  • On the “generic ballot question” about who people would vote for in their district’s Congressional race, Democrats hold a narrow, 46%-45% lead.
  • Virginians overwhelmingly (76%-15%) think “things in the United States are headed…off on the wrong track.”
  • Virginians narrowly (41%-37%) think things have “gotten off on the wrong track” here in Virginia.
  • President Joe Biden has a 36%-50% (-14 points) approval rating, while Donald Trump has a 37%-55% (-18 points) approval rating.
  • By an overwhelming (70%-8%) majority, Virginians believe that “teachers in the classroom” and not “politicians in Richmond” ” should be responsible for developing curriculum and lesson plans for Virginia’s children.”
  • By a wide (63%-29%) majority, Virginians think the state government “should let the gradual increase [in the minimum wage] to $15.00 [an hour] go ahead?”
  • By a wide (64%-13%) majority, Virginians OPPOSE “chang[ing] our state’s laws to weaken employment protections for teachers, health care workers, first responders, and other essential workers.”
  • By a wide (65%-22%) majority, Virginians SUPPORT “the state of Virginia declaring a state of emergency to protect
drivers and consumers from gas stations that are over-charging at the gas pump.”
  • By a strong (57%-32%) majority, Virginians OPPOSE “the likely Supreme Court decision that could allow Republicans to
outlaw abortions in Virginia and throughout the country.”
  • By a more than 3:1 (52%-15%) majority, Virginians ” think gun laws in Virginia should be stronger,” with 30% saying they should be kept as they are now.
  • By a wide (64%-28%) majority, Virginians SUPPORT “sensible gun-control legislation as a way of cracking down on violent crime in our schools and communities.”
  • “Do you strongly support, somewhat support, somewhat oppose or strongly oppose these efforts to deny teaching historical information in the classroom?” A whopping 50% (!) of Virginians STRONGLY OPPOSE doing that, with only 15% strongly supporting it.
NEW STATEWIDE VIRGINIA POLL
Democrats Lead Generic Congressional Ballot 46-45%; Youngkin Job Performance Down to 43%
Richmond, VA – A new poll finds that Congressional Democratic candidates are in a statistical dead heat (46%) with Republicans (45%), despite the challenging national environment and the party’s statewide losses in the state last year. In addition, Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin’s job approval is only 43%, lower than polls in March 2022 and approximately 8% lower than his vote share in the November 2021 election.
The statewide survey of 696 Virginia voters, conducted by Public Policy Polling, has a margin of error of +/-3.7%. The survey was paid for by Energized For Change PAC (EFC), the PAC led by Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn, the first woman to serve as Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates.
The survey results also show strong support for smart anti-crime policies, including sensible prevention of gun violence.
Key findings of the EFC poll show strong support for Democratic positions on the major public-policy issues of 2022:
  • 70% believe teachers in the classroom, not politicians, should be responsible for what is taught in public school.
  • 65% support Virginia declaring a state of emergency to protect drivers and consumers from price gouging by gas stations.
  • 64% support sensible gun control to reduce violent crime.
  • 64% oppose efforts to reduce wages, employment protections, and safety protections for teachers, health care workers, first responders, and other essential workers;
  • 63% support increasing the minimum wage to $15-an-hour.
  • 62% support efforts to accurately teach American history in the classroom.
  • 57% oppose the likely Supreme Court decision to outlaw abortions in Virginia and throughout the United States.
According to Filler-Corn: “This survey confirms once again that Democrats are more in tune with the people of Virginia, from the schoolhouse to the State House, and that Virginians want to be protected economically and in their communities. We look forward to sharing these polling results with Democrats across the state as we continue working to make progress in the coming months and years.”
Last week, Filler-Corn announced the re-launch of Energized for Change. This week’s poll is part of Energized for Change’s focus on electing Democrats in Virginia up and down the ballot.
