Earlier today, Sen. Tim Kaine ripped into Gov. Glenn Youngkin for Youngkin’s tweet yesterday morning, following the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago, which stated:
“A stunning move by the DOJ and FBI. This same DOJ labeled parents in Loudoun County as terrorists and failed to enforce federal law to protect Justices in their homes. Selective, politically motivated actions have no place in our democracy.”
In response, Sen. Kaine responded both on video and on Twitter, ripping Gov. Youngkin. To watch the video, check out the Roanoke Times article. Also, here’s a transcript, with bolding added for emphasis.
“I’m very disappointed in legislative colleagues who are quick to trash this search [of Mar-a-Lago] and trash its legitimacy. And I was most disturbed to see this morning Virginia Gov. Youngkin basically…impugning the Department of Justice and saying that this was the same Department of Justice that labeled Loudoun school parents terrorists. That’s just a lie. The Department of Justice never labeled Loudoun school children or their parents as domestic terrorists. A national school board association wrote a letter to the Department of Justice, asking that they would investigate violence and threats of violence against school board members as possible acts of domestic terrorism. Now whether the school board should have used that phrase or not, it was not the Department of Justice that did it. The Department of Justice has not labeled anybody in Loudoun – school parent or otherwise – a terrorist. And for Gov. Youngkin, who knows better, to trash the Department of Justice in that way, shows a severe lack of judgement. But what it also shows is that too many in the GOP – even people who should know better – feel like for political reasons, they have to be water carriers for Donald J. Trump. They should be instead protectors of our democracy and the rule of law, rather than trying to court favor with Donald J. Trump, private citizen.”
In addition, Sen. Kaine tweeted:
“Where is there a shred of evidence that DOJ labeled Loudoun parents ‘terrorists?’ And attacking the FBI at the same time the entire VA federal delegation and Economic Development office are trying to convince the FBI to move its HQ to Virginia?
In America, no one is above the law. We need to support, not trash, our law enforcement community enforcing those laws.”
Nice! And now that Sen. Kaine’s cut loose, hopefully we’ll see a lot more high-profile Democrats calling out Youngkin’s constant stream of lies and bullsh*t!
