Emma Violand-Sanchez Hosts Fundraiser and Endorses Nancy Van Doren for Arlington School Board

    VIOLAND-SANCHEZ CALLS ON VOTERS TO SUPPORT NANCY VAN DOREN IN THE MAY 15 AND MAY 17 DEMOCRATIC SCHOOL BOARD CAUCUS



    ARLINGTON, VA., (April 27, 2014) – Arlington School Board Member Emma Violand-Sanchez today endorsed Nancy Van Doren for Arlington School Board, and called on Democrats to support Van Doren in her bid for the Democratic Party endorsement for an open School Board seat.

    “Nancy is an advocate for every student in Arlington,” said Violand-Sanchez. “She will make sure the needs of all our students are being met, including those with disabilities and second language learners. I am sure this will help APS make progress in enhancing achievement for all students.”  

    Violand-Sanchez announced her endorsement at a standing-room-only event co-hosted by former School Board Member Frank Wilson, Angela Guzman, Alex Deucher, and 40 community leaders.

    Frank Wilson also expressed his support for Van Doren.

    “Nancy is the candidate with the demonstrated track record of championing the best interest of every child in Arlington,” said Wilson. “As a School Board member she will continue to work to strengthen the instructional program for all our students, and close the achievement gap.”

    “Nancy is a person of action,” said Arlington community leader Angela Guzman. “She has served as a leader in major APS task forces for a decade. She has been a driving force on initiatives that have touched every aspect of a student’s daily life. We need her leadership on the School Board.”

    The Democratic Party holds its Caucus for Arlington School Board on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Drew Model School and on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM at Washington-Lee High School.

    ABOUT NANCY

    Nancy Van Doren is an education advocate with extensive business and international experience. She spent 12 years in the private sector with Connecticut National Bank, The Travelers Companies, The Hartford Courant and Newsday.  She then spent eight years overseas with her husband Jack Zetkulic, a Foreign Service Officer, and her family living in Serbia, Sweden and Switzerland.  For the last decade, Nancy and her family (four children that all currently attend Jefferson Middle School and W-L High School), have lived in Ashton Heights.  Nancy has served on and/or Chaired the following Committees in APS:  Multi-Modal Student Safety Special Services Committee, Arlington Career Center Parent Advisory Committee, Family and Community Engagement Working Groups, Arlington Special Education Advisory Committee, ADHD Task Force, Advisory Council on Instruction, County Council of PTAs, Jefferson Middle School PTA President, Washington-Lee Crew Boosters and Fundraising, Arlington Latino Network (Founding Member), ArlingtonADHD and ArlingtonReading Parent Support Groups (Founder).
