Courtesy of VPAP, see below for State Senate and House of Delegates fundraising numbers with just a week to go until primary day 2023. The filing deadline was 11:59 pm deadline on June 12 and the fundraising numbers are for the period 4/1-6/8. I’ll add more later, but for now, just a few things that jumped out at me:

  • In the marquee SD13 Democratic primary battle between Sen. Joe Morrissey and former Del. Lashrecse Aird, it wasn’t even close, as Aird raised $815k (and had $101k cash on hand as of 6/8), while Morrissey raised just $98k (and had just $7.5k cash on hand as of 6/8). Go Aird!
  • In the heavyweight SD18 Democratic primary battle between Senators Louise Lucas and Lionell Spruill, it was pretty close in fundraising, with Lucas raising $501k and Spruill $459k.
  • In the SD11 Democratic primary, Sen. Creigh Deeds raised $516k, while challenger Del. Sally Hudson raised $599k.
  • In the SD27 Democratic primary, Joel Griffin raised $109k and Ben Litchfield raised $62k.
  • In the SD29 Democratic primary, Del. Elizabeth Guzman raised $281k and Sen. Jeremy McPike raised $276k.
  • In the SD33 Democratic primary, former Del. Jennifer Carroll Foy raised $771k and former Del. Hala Ayala raised $331k.
  • In the SD35 Democratic primary, Sen. Dave Marsden raised $140k, while challenger Heidi Drauschak raised $540k.
  • In the SD36 Democratic primary, Sen. George Barker raised $667k and challenger Stella Pekarsky raised $420k.
  • In the SD37 Democratic primary, Sen. Chap Petersen raised $176k and Saddam Salim raised $102k.
  • In the highly competitive HD07 Democratic primary for the seat currently held by long-time Del. Ken Plum, Paul Berry raised $86k, followed by Shyamali Hauth ($49k), Karen Keys-Gamarra ($39k) and Mary Barthelson ($3.7k).
  • In the highly competitive HD19 Democratic primary, Makya Little raised $112k (of which $60k was “in kind” and $31k were loans from herself), Natalie Shorter raised $48k (of which a whopping $30k was from Dominion Energy!) and Rozia Henson raised $30k.
  • In the highly competitive HD57 Democratic primary, Susanna Gibson raised $116k and Bob Shippee raised $52k.
  • In the highly competitive HD82 Democratic primary, Victor McKenzie raised $45k and Kimberly Pope Adams raised $50k.
  • In the competitive HD84 Democratic primary, former Del. Nadarius Clark raised $118k and Michele Joyce raised $28k.
  • In the highly competitive HD96 Democratic primary, Susan Hippen raised $64k, Sean Monteiro raised $41k, Brandon Hutchins raised $17k and there’s no report yet from Del. Kelly Convirs-Fowler.
