Sen. Tim Kaine: VP Kamala Harris “conceded when she lost…did not lie about the result…did not file baseless lawsuits…did not inspire a violent attack on the Capitol”

Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA03): "the public should recognize those who lie and attempt to rewrite history for partisan political gain as a real threat to our enduring democracy."

See below for statements by Virginia’s Congressional delegation – the Democrats, at least, as the Republicans are completely full of it, in that they ONLY are willing to certify election results when their guy wins (if not, they go apes***, encourage a violent mob to assault the Capitol, etc.).

KAINE STATEMENT ON CONGRESSIONAL CERTIFICATION OF 2024 ELECTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) released the following statement after Congress certified the results of the 2024 election:

“My profound thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris. She is a history-making Vice President and Presidential candidate. She played an important role in an Administration that produced long lasting economic, social, and diplomatic accomplishments. She conceded when she lost. She did not lie about the result. She did not try to strong-arm election officials into fraudulently reporting fake results. She did not file baseless lawsuits challenging the outcome. She did not inspire a violent attack on the Capitol to interrupt the peaceful transfer of power—instead she presided gracefully over the election certification. She did not skip town because she was too ashamed to face people after her loss. She has never encouraged violence against political opponents. She is what democracy looks like.”

Sen. Mark Warner: “Today, Congress will certify the election results. The peaceful transfer of power is the most fundamental aspect of American democracy – I’m glad we’re not expecting violence and chaos this year.”

Vindman Upholds Will of the People and Peaceful Transfer of Power

WASHINGTON – Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today released the following statement after Congress certified the results of the 2024 presidential election, upholding the will of the people.

“Today, we upheld democracy, respected the will of the people, and ensured a peaceful transfer of power. This should always be the standard for elections in the United States and around the world. I am proud to be part of the group of responsible legislators who abide by our Constitutional obligations and take seriously the peaceful transfer of power. As a member of Congress, I will always stand by these values and against attacks on our Constitution and democratic institutions.

“Unfortunately, January 6th will forever be remembered as the day our democracy came under attack, and I condemn in the strongest terms those who desecrated the Capitol grounds and the people who incited them on this day in [2021]. Yet, thanks to the courage of the U.S. Capitol Police, Congressmen, and Senators who did not fold to the pressures of a violent mob, our democratic institutions prevailed.

“With the 2024 election results peacefully certified, I look forward to getting to work championing bipartisan solutions to reduce costs, protect our national security, and help every family achieve the American Dream.”

The Constitution requires the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to convene in a joint session in order to count the electoral votes of each state and Washington, D.C. certifying the presidential election prior to inauguration.
