See below for video and a few highlights from Sen. Tim Kaine’s appearance this morning on Fox “News” (in air quotes, because…well, you know why, lol).
- Sen. Kaine agrees with Sen. John Fetterman that Hamas is “diabolical.” Kaine adds, 100% correctly, that Hamas is “a terrorist organization, they’re horrible, but they’re not the same as the Gazan population or the Palestinian people, and so there needs to be a vigorous war against Hamas and an eventual dearming of Hamas…but innocent Palestinians – women and children, both in Gaza and on the West Bank – should not be suffering because of Hamas’ atrocities.”
- Sen. Kaine argued for “let[ting] the professionals do [humanitarian relief] – the World Food Program, Mercy Corps…they should be the one helping distribute adequate humanitarian aid to Gazans.” Sen. Kaine added, “No easy answers, but what’s happening now isn’t working.”
- Sen. Kaine noted: “reporting that Hamas is diverting aid is seriously questioned, even by Israeli officials.”
- Sen. Kaine said “it is the case that trucks get looted by hungry people who are starving,” so what’s needed is to “provide them some protection and don’t kill civilians who are coming to get aid.”
- “The war should be against Hamas, not against Palestinians in Gaza and on the West Bank…who have nothing to do with Hamas in Gaza.”
- On countries moving towards recognizing a Palestinian state, Sen. Kaine said: “I think the reason we should move towards recognition of a Palestinian state based upon conditions has nothing to do with Hamas – Hamas is evil and needs to be dearmed. The international community, including the United States, made a promise in 1947 that there would be a state of Israel and a state for Arabs – Palestine in this space. One promise has been met nearly 80 years later, one promise has not been met…The most important condition is recognizing a Palestine when they are able to peacefully coexist with their neighbors, including Israel…It’s establishing conditions that, when they are met, Palestine will be recognized.”
- Sen. Kaine also agreed with Fox host Shannon Bream that “Hamas cannot be part of that equation” – Kaine responded, “absolutely.”
