Two excellent bills by VA Del. Dan Helmer; note that VA House Republicans voted AGAINST accurate teaching about the January 6, 2021 violent, pro-Trump insurrection/coup attempt. Gee, wonder why…

Delegate Helmer Passes Two Bills Pushing Back Against MAGA Agenda in Virginia

HB333 Will Keep January 6th Insurrection in History Books; HB113 Bans Musk Lotteries

RICHMOND – Today, the Virginia House of Delegates passed two bills patroned by Delegate Dan Helmer to push back against the MAGA playbook that far right Republicans are implementing across the country.

The first, HB333, will ensure that Virginia teachers can continue to teach history, not propaganda, by ensuring that the history of January 6th, 2021 insurrection is protected in textbooks. This legislation comes as Republican states across the country – and the White House have rewritten this attempted violent overthrow of the government as ‘peaceful protest.’

The second, HB113, will ban the use of “Musk lotteries” like the one used in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race in 2025 in which the billionaire held million dollar lotteries to buy voters support.

Delegate Dan Helmer released the following statement:

“Last November, Virginians showed the rest of the country how it’s done by electing a pro-freedom, pro-Constitution majority. We sent a clear signal to MAGA actors across the country that Virginia is not for sale.

“As the grandson of survivors of the Holocaust and the Soviet Union, I know that fascism begins when the government spreads lies about commonly accepted facts. I’m proud of the Virginia National Guardsmen and Virginia State Police who stood watch over our Democracy on January 6, and I refuse to let MAGA undermine their valor. I’m proud to pass these two measures today out of the House to protect voters in the Commonwealth from the influence of billionaires like Elon Musk – and to ensure that it’s history, not MAGA propaganda, that is taught in Virginia’s schools.”
