As expected, Del. Adele McClure (D-Arlington) this morning is announcing her candidacy for U.S. House, in the VA07 “blue lobster” district that would be created if the redistricting amendment passes on April 21. See below for what Del. McClure has to say regarding her candidacy. And click here for some background on Adele McClure (e.g,. “previously served as executive director of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, as Associate Director of Eviction Prevention at the Virginia Department of Community Development, as policy director for former Lt. Governor Fairfax, and worked at the International Monetary Fund and the Association of the United States Army… first ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in 2023 to represent the 2nd district, a new district created from redistricting based in Arlington County”).
BTW, McClure joins several other Democrats in this race – Del. Dan Helmer, former Virginia First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe, former Jack Smith principal deputy JP Cooney – and others (e.g., Del. Elizabeth Guzman, State Sen. Saddam Salim, Arlington County Board member Maureen Coffey) rumored as possible candidates. But first, of course, the redistricting amendment has to pass on April 21…so let’s keep our eyes on the ball!
