There are 3 Special Elections less just 10 days before Inauguration Day. Get involved!

2016 will soon come to a close, but there is important work to be done between now and Inauguration Day. As we look ahead to 2017, we have a chance to not only play defense, but to send a strong electoral message to the nation about where Virginians stand.

Virginia has three special elections on Tuesday, January 10th. One of these races will determine the balance of the State Senate. The deadline for Voter Registration/Updates for these races is Tuesday, January 3th. For quick links to their pages, click here.

House District 85: www.vpap.org/…. “Republican Norman “Rocky” Holcomb, a captain in the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, and Democrat Cheryl Turpin, a teacher in the city’s public schools, are running in a special election Jan. 10 for a state House of Delegates seat. They’re seeking the 85th District position held by Del. Scott Taylor, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 8.” (pilotonline.com/…)

Senate District 9: www.vpap.org/…. “[Del. Jennifer] McClellan is a virtual lock to win the Democratic-leaning district, which is coming open as Sen. A. Donald McEachin, D-Henrico, prepares to resign early next year after winning a congressional seat.” (www.richmond.com/…)

Senate District 22: www.vpap.org/…. “Former Fluvanna County Sheriff and Buckingham native Ryant L. Washington thanks fellow Democrats for giving him the nod to run as his party’s candidate in the special election next month, filling the soon-to-be-expired Senate District 22 seat.” (www.farmvilleherald.com/…THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PICK-UP FOR SENATE DEMOCRATS. There are two Republicans running — one as an Independent — so a Democrat could win this seat.

A Democratic win here puts the Senate at 20 Democrats (up from 19) and 20 Republicans (down from 21) giving LG Ralph Northam the tie vote. Early voting is in-progress!
