    Dear Friends,

Over the first half of this year I have met with and spoken to many of you who have expressed interest in my next steps and encouraged me to stay involved in politics.  I cannot thank you enough for your continued friendship.  I have also received many calls and messages urging me to run for Congress or other office in Virginia from supporters eager to see me continue my public service.  I am humbled by the support, but I wanted to let you know that, after careful consideration, I have decided not to run for Congress in 2012.

Though it was never my dream to be in politics, I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve the people of Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore in the US House of Representatives.  I have had many great opportunities to serve, including as a civilian alongside our military men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I am proud of all we accomplished in one term in Congress, including passing legislation to cut taxes for small businesses who hire unemployed veterans, protecting military family benefits like MyCAA, and achieving advanced funding for VA healthcare.  I also know there are many ways to serve.  That’s why, in addition to my current work on foreign affairs issues as a Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the U.S., I have joined the Board of Directors at VetsHouse in Virginia Beach.  Through VetsHouse I look forward to staying closely involved in helping Hampton Roads veterans.

Over the past six months I have been busy traveling around Virginia visiting with people across the Commonwealth and supporting Democratic committees and groups dedicated to helping candidates who share a vision of service to our communities.  I intend to stay active in helping Democrats win in the upcoming 2011 elections, as well as the vital 2012 races.  As our country faces major challenges, and while issues with deep and far-reaching implications are being debated, it is a time for all of us to stay involved and help guide Virginia and America on the best path.

Thank you so much for your support over the years.  As a team we have accomplished much.  I look forward to continuing to serve alongside you in the years to come.

    Sincerely,

    Glenn Nye
