The following is from the Jennifer Wexton campaign. I listened to this interview earlier today and was not surprised, but still appalled, at Comstock’s dodging/refusal to answer questions, her nastiness, her b.s and her demonstrable lies. See below for a few examples of what I mean…and make sure you vote Jennifer Wexton on 11/6!
Comstock Blows Up At Kojo Nnamdi, Callers Over Questions About Her Record On Gun Violence Legislation and Hate Crimes
LEESBURG – Congresswoman Barbara Comstock exchanged heated words with radio host Kojo Nnamdi of WAMU and callers to his show earlier today. Comstock was asked by three consecutive callers to respond to aspects of her legislative record related to gun violence and hate crimes, and lost her temper with them after Nnamdi interrupted a lengthy filibuster to remind her of her A-rating from the National Rifle Association.
Some noteworthy moments from her appearance:
[At 4:00] Comstock dodges the question of a caller who asks why she has touted symbolic nonbinding resolution on hate crimes while refusing to cosponsor another bill that would make actual, substantive policy changes.
[At 7:30] A caller from Winchester asks Comstock whether she will support legislation to expand background checks on gun sales. Comstock talks about other bills that do not address the issue.
[At 12:00] Nnamdi attempts to overcome a Comstock filibuster to return the conversation to her legislative record on guns, and points out her A-rating from the NRA. Comstock attacks Nnamdi for bringing up her record.
[At 13:30] Host Kojo Nnamdi voices frustration with Comstock for filibustering his interview and caller questions.
[At 14:00] Comstock refuses to answer a caller’s question about whether she believes LGBTQ Americans should be protected by hate crimes legislation on the grounds that the caller is from Maryland.
[At 15:30] Comstock lectures host Kojo Nnamdi for bringing up her record of voting with Trump 98% of the time. Nnamdi points out that he had not mentioned the figure.
[At 19:00] Comstock takes a caller question about choice. She glosses over her extreme anti-choice record, without mentioning her repeated votes to defund Planned Parenthood, before pivoting to discuss sexual harassment.
Comstock filibustered through substantial portions of the interview, and the frustration of both callers and host Kojo Nnamdi with her refusal to answer questions is audible. The full interview can be heard here.
