So, at this point (5/13), in Virginia we’re at 26,746 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 3,520 hospitalizations and 927 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 946 (+3.7%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 730 (+2.9%). The number of new test results was 8,845 — lower than 10,000 per day, and still much lower than the 16,664 per day that Harvard’s Global Health Institute estimates we need to reopen safely and contain the virus. As for hospitalizations, they went up 125 (+3.7%), from 3,395 to 3,520, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 95 (+2.9%). Deaths are reported up 36 (from 891 to 927), compared to an increase of 41 (from 850 to 891) the previous day. Overall, not great, really – still going up.
