So, at this point (7/9), in Virginia we’re at 67,988 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 6,625 hospitalizations and 1,937 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 613 (+0.9%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly lower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 635 (+1.0%). The number of TOTAL test results was 829,793 (up 17,431 from 812,362 yesterday), which is still well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 48 (+0.7%), from 6,577 to 6,625, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 65 (+1.0%). Deaths are reported up 32 (from 1,905 to 1,937), compared to an increase of 24 (from 1,881 to 1,905) the previous day – and the highest daily increase since May 28.
