See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (7/14), in Virginia we’re at 72,443 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 6,817 hospitalizations and 1,977 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 801 (+1.1%) in the latest statistics, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 972 (+1.4%). The number of TOTAL test results was 913,295 (up 17,609 from 895,686 yesterday), which is still well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 52 (+0.8%), from 6,765 to 6,817, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 21 (+0.3%). In contrast, check out the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association’s hospitalization numbers, which have been going up for days now, reaching 1,127 from 783 on July 6. Deaths are reported up 9 (from 1,968 to 1,977), compared to an increase of 2 (from 1,966 to 1,968) the previous day.
