See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (7/15), in Virginia we’re at 73,527 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 6,905 hospitalizations and 1,992 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 1,084 (+1.5%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 801 (+1.1%), and also the greatest day-over-day increase in cases since June 7. The number of TOTAL test results was 928,868 (up 15,573 from 913,295 yesterday), which is still well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression).  As for hospitalizations, they went up 88 (+1.3%), from 6,817 to 6,905, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 52 (+0.8%), and also the greatest day-over-day increase since June 11.  Deaths are reported up 15 (from 1,977 to 1,992), compared to an increase of 9 (from 1,968 to 1,977) the previous day.
