So, at this point (7/21), in Virginia we’re at 79,371 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 7,267 hospitalizations and 2,048 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 996 (+1.3%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 945 (+1.2%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,031,976 (up 20,234 from 1,011,742 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 66 (+0.9%), from 7,201 to 7,267, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 36 (+0.5%). Deaths are reported up 17 (from 2,031 to 2,048, compared to an increase of 4 (from 2,027 to 2,031) the previous day.
