So, at this point (8/9), in Virginia we’re at 100,086 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 8,369 hospitalizations and 2,326 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 897 (+0.9%) in the latest statistics, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 1,307 (+1.3%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,350,486 (up 21,853 from 1,328,633 yesterday), which is still below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 37 (+0.4%), from 8,332 to 8,369, which is a slower rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 51 (+0.6%). Deaths are reported up 4 (from 2,322 to 2,326), compared to an increase of 5 (from 2,317 to 2,322) the previous day.
