So, at this point (9/8), in Virginia we’re at 128,407 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 9,932 hospitalizations and 2,686 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 836 (0.7%) in the latest statistics, which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 645 (+0.5%). The number of TOTAL test results was 1,817,347 (up 7,802 from 1,809,545 yesterday), which is still well below what we need, according to researchers at Harvard (that would be 22,422/day for mitigation, 81,741/day for suppression). As for hospitalizations, they went up 30 (+0.3%), from 9,902 to 9,932, which is a slightly faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 21 (+0.2%). Deaths are reported up 2 (from 2,684 to 2,686), compared up 6 (from 2,678 to 2,684) the previous day.
