Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Issues Statement on Postal Box Break-ins
“Prosecute to the Fullest Extent of the Law”

Henrico – Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney issued this statement on the alleged thefts into postal boxes in Henrico and the region.

“Postal boxes are federal property and I am extremely dismayed and disturbed that they would be broken into. Although they are federal property and, therefore, federal law enforcement will be handling the case, I will be following this case carefully and have offered my assistance to federal officials.

“US Mail is essential for people. They pay bills through the mail, receive and mail legal documents, packages/ and letters from loved ones. During this pandemic, these needs are even more imperative.

“With a month before a critical election, some people are choosing to vote by mail and they must be able to know their vote is safe, will not be tampered with and will arrive in a timely fashion to their local registrar.

“Voting is a sacred right in a democracy, and it must not be undermined.

“I would Just remind voters who are concerned about the whereabouts of their ballots that they can track them at the Virginia Department of Elections.

“I want to assure Henricoans that I will not tolerate tampering with mail and will not tolerate attempts to interfere with the election.”
