MCLEAN, VA – Terry for Virginia today released a new digital ad, “Why Glenn’s Running,” which highlights Donald Trump’s hand-picked, right-wing extremist candidate Glenn Youngkin and the conspiracy theories that have fueled his candidacy. Youngkin proudly launched his campaign on what he called “the most important issue”– an “election integrity” plan based on Donald Trump’s conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. The ad even features a clip of Glenn Youngkin proudly saying, “President Trump represents so much of why I’m running.”
Despite facing an extreme Republican legislature as Virginia’s 72nd Governor, Terry made important progress for the Commonwealth on the economy and education, and he stood up for Virginians’ most basic civil rights at every turn. Terry secured a record $1 billion investment in education and expanded preschool to thousands of children, created 200,000 jobs and raised personal income 14%, and successfully stood up to every Republican attack on Virginians’ reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ equality. As governor, Terry also fought tirelessly to reverse a racist Jim Crow-era law that disenfranchised Virginians previously convicted of felonies and restored more voting rights than any governor in American history — to 173,000 Virginians.
As Virginia’s next governor, Terry will build on his strong record and the progress made under Governor Ralph Northam. Terry will accelerate Virginia’s minimum wage increase to $15 by 2024, make sure all workers have access to paid sick, family and medical leave, and make sure childcare is more accessible and affordable. He will also work to ensure that all Virginians have access to quality, affordable health care and a safe and affordable place to call home, and Terry will make an unprecedented investment in education to ensure every Virginia child has equitable access to a world-class education and a brighter future.
Terry has also released big, bold plans to strengthen Virginia’s education system and dramatically increase teacher pay, help secure Virginia’s economic recovery from COVID-19, reform our criminal justice system to create a more equitable Virginia, ensure Virginians have access to regular nutritious meals, address the broken, predatory system of prescription drug pricing, boldly confront the gun violence epidemic, make Virginia the best state in the nation for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Health Care (STEM-H) and computer science education, tackle the housing crisis in the Commonwealth and invest in Virginia’s workforce to create a more equitable post-COVID economy, ensure Virginians have access to high-quality, affordable health care, tackle climate change and secure Virginia’s clean energy future by 2035, lift up Black Virginians as the Commonwealth rebuilds equitably from the COVID-19 pandemic, further advance LGBTQ+ rights, and create a flourishing rural economy.
