Sign the Petition to Free Banana Man!

Has everyone in Stafford County gone bananas? No, really?

This story is so ludicrous; I don't even know where to begin. According to myFoxdc.com, a Colonial Forge High School student was "handcuffed and placed in a police car for running down the sidelines during halftime at a [High School] football game" in a banana suit this past Friday.

I'm so glad that Sheriff Jett (R-Stafford) is taking my article on increased crime in Stafford County so seriously. Clearly, the Banana Man posed an imminent danger to the community and it was necessary to handcuff him and throw him in the back of a squad car. This isn't exactly what I had in mind when I wrote the post. He wasn't arrested and no charges have been filed, but I hear that Eric Olsen (R-Stafford) is on the case - that's after he finishes returning the illegal campaign donation.

Wittman Accused of Misusing Taxpayer Funds for Campaign Expenses, SDC Chair Files Formal Complaint

Apparently someone forgot to tell Rob Wittman that it isn't ok to use taxpayer dollars to prepare, publish and mail his political campaign materials. The "franking privilege" allow members of Congress to send "official mail," under their signature, without postage - although this sort of mail is not free as it is paid for by annual tax-funded appropriations. As Rob is no doubt aware, political campaign mailers do not fall under what is allowable as "official mail."

Additionally, congressmen are prohibited (Section 3210 (a)(6)(A), Title 39 U.S.C.) from sending out any mass mailings during the 90-days preceding the date of an election - be it primary or general. A mass mailing is defined as "an unsolicited mailing of 500 or more pieces of substantially identical content - whether mailed singly or in bulk - over the course of a legislative year."

Since the 90-day blackout period begun, Rob has not shied away from using taxpayer funds to send out what are clearly campaign mailers. Kandy Hilliard, Chair of the Stafford Democratic Committee, issued a press release this morning that accused him of misusing taxpayer funds for campaign expenses and called for a formal investigation to be launched.

Farm Team Blasts Wittman Campaign Over Sexist Remark

This is cross-posted at Leaving My Marc.

I'd say that the Wittman campaign is feeling quite threatened these days by Krystal Ball's (D-VA-1st CD) candidacy that they felt that they needed to dismiss her as a candidate through an extremely sexist comment.

Great job by the Farm Team on calling them out!

Wittman for Congress makes sexist remarks about
female opponent, Krystal Ball

Recently, a spokesperson for Congressman Rob Wittman of the 1st District of Virginia made a controversial statement about his opponent, Krystal Ball. In referring to Mrs. Ball, the Wittman campaign described her as "cute" stating, "As cute as our opponent may think she is..."

Today, Susan Platt, a founding member of The Farm Team said, "It is regrettable that Rob Wittman's campaign feels it is acceptable to degrade the Democratic Nominee for Congress for the First Congressional, who happens to be a woman, in such a manner."

Platt continued, "Krystal is running a smart, issue-oriented campaign and should be treated with respect.  Not only is it disrespectful to Mrs. Ball, but to the many other women across Virginia who expect more from their elected officials.  We hold our leaders to a higher standard.  That's why we're supporting Krystal Ball for Congress."

Where’s Wittman?

That's what constituents in the 1st District of Virginia are wondering. It's no wonder that his constituents have no idea who or where he is, since he has no legislative accomplishments to speak of and instead spends his time hobnobbing at GOP fundraisers and hanging out with his pal Eric Cantor (see Lap Dog article).

Krystal Ball to Convention Delegates: “Democratic values are American values”

This is cross-posted at Leaving My Marc.

Democrats helped Krystal Ball (D-Fredericksburg) shed the presumptive nominee label by selecting her to be the official democratic nominee from Virginia's 1st Congressional District at a convention this past Saturday.

Ball wasted little time in drawing a sharp contrast between her and Congressman Rob Wittman (R-Montross).

When we passed Social Security they threatened to repeal it, when we passed Medicare they threatened to repeal it and now, now that we have passed health care reform they are threatening to repeal it. Well I have one message for Eric Cantor and John Boehner and to Rob Wittman. Let me say this clearly. I don't care what your buddies in the health insurance lobby want we are not going backwards!

Delegate Bob Marshall Suggests Shooting Lawmakers Over Policy Differences is OK

This is cross-posted at Leaving My Marc.

At a recent Stafford County Tea Party rally, Delegate Bob Marshall (R-13th) suggests that it is OK to shoot lawmakers over policy differences. First we have Corey Stewart comparing the Obama administration to the Nazi's, now we have this.

Obviously, he was just misquoted.

Again, this sort of irresponsible rhetoric may cause someone with violent tendencies to think it is acceptable to act out in this way. You can obviously hear the teabaggers laughing and shouting words of encouragement. Unbelievable.

I just can't understand why Virginia Republicans are falling all over themselves to appeal to teabaggers. They are becoming more of a fringe party everyday.

Stewart Offers No Apologies for Nazi Comparison, Reaffirms Using Tax Dollars to Break the...

This is cross-posted at Leaving My Marc.

I wrote on Monday about comments that Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, made comparing the Obama administration to that of the Nazi's.

Today, Stewart responded to his deeply offensive remarks by claiming that he didn't "intend" to compare the Obama administration to the Nazi's. Stewart went on to say, "Oh, that's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. Absolutely not." He then said that he would continue to offer similar remarks.

Of course, he said all of this is a "typical liberal reaction."

I don't know what's worse: the fact that he claims that he didn't draw the comparison or that he defiantly insists that he will continue to use this sort of language.

I thought that Stewart would try to claim that he was taken out of context, so that is why I posted the entire video. Stewart was clearly trying to fan the passions of the crowd with this comparison. This was a common theme throughout the program. There is no doubt in my mind that he knew what he was saying. No doubt.

While this may be all fun in games for Stewart, the reality is that this sort of rhetoric may cause someone with violent tendencies to act out. It's already happened with Congressman Tom Perriello's brother.

RPV Chairman Pat Mullins Supports Steele, Changes He’s Brought to the RNC Were Essential

This is cross-posted at Leaving My Marc.

While many Republicans are calling for the resignation of Michael Steele, after revelations arouse about his profligate spending of party funds on a trip to a lesbian bondage-themed strip club, Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins wants everyone to know that he fully supports him.

Mullins supports him because "he was very helpful in Virginia throughout our campaign [last year], and I don't think we need to get into a divisive intraparty thing like that in the middle of congressional elections." Mullins would prefer to just sweep things under the rug, what a leader! This seems like a very compelling argument, I wonder what Virginia social conservatives think?
