Election Day Across Virginia

(Thanks for the reminder about local elections today.  One candidate I definitely recommend is Brian White for City Council in Chesapeake City. Also, Dan Drummond for City Council in Fairfax City. – promoted by lowkell)

Today is election day for local office in many Virginia municipalities including:

City of Roanoke, Lynchburg, Williamsburg, Hampton, Newport News, Vinton, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and City of Fairfax.

There are some exciting races including some good young Democrats who are running for city and town council.  Yours truly will be volunteering for Scott Foster in Williamsburg all day.

Please feel free to use this as an open thread to report what you see/hear from the polls today.

UPDATE 9:06 pm: Bad news from Chesapeake City, where Brian White appears to have finished 9th and out of the running.  Sigh…

We’re very excited about young candidates including Brian White, Scott Foster, Tommy Smiegel, and Aaron Lyles.

Roanoke Times is reporting 7% turnout at 3:00 PM in Roanoke City, which equates to very low turnout in a 7 candidate race for three seats. This is the first local city council race in recent memory where the Republicans have fielded a full slate so if you know anyone, and I do mean anyone, who is a Democrat in Roanoke… make sure they’ve voted.

Turnout is quite high and it’s anyone’s race!

Doug Smith lost in Portsmouth, Paige Washington is on the brink of losing in Hampton, Joe Whitaker is behind by 7 votes in Newport News, Randy Wright is only up by 11 in Norfolk, and three of the four incumbents in Chesapeake are lagging behind.

I don’t know much about any of these people, except I’d be glad to see Wright go down.

On the other hand, Scott Foster won big in Williamsburg.

Maybe you shouldn’t have said anything. 😉

The Dem slate picked up 4 of the 6 council seats in Herndon, knocking a couple of incumbent teabaggers off the council.  So, counting the mayor, Herndon is 4-3 Democratic-Republican.

    • Elaine in Roanoke

Even with turnout slightly below 11 percent, the three Democrats, one an incumbent, won. The incumbent, David Trinkle, was the largest vote-getter and will become vice mayor.

The Republicans fielded a full slate for the first time since 2002, one of them a “Tea Bagger.”

      • I’m sure they all make that distinction. (snark)

Hutchinson did not support Steve’s hispanic baiting.

A racist king without a kingdom.  Wonder how long before he resigns in total frustration.
