Video: Sen. Kaine “Very Troubled” by Tillerson’s, ExxonMobil’s Ties to Russia, Climate Science Denial

Every American should be “very troubled” by what Sen. Kaine’s talking about here. If you’re not, you really need to look in the mirror and ask yourself why your partisan loyalty “trumps” (pun intended) your patriotic loyalty to America (not to mention your duty as a human being living on this planet to protect our home from destruction). Thank you to Sen. Kaine for being a leader on this!

P.S. Side point – can anyone in the media spell “ExxonMobil” correctly? Yesterday in the Washington Post’s “Express,” I saw it spelled as “Exxon Mobile” multiple times. Yep, our media has really declined…

  • Robert Reich on Rick Perry for DOE Secretary…”Another bizarre cabinet pick”

Trump has picked former Texas governor Rick Perry for Secretary of Energy. Here are 4 things you should know about Perry:

    1. Texas is rich in energy resources and Perry is an enthusiastic advocate of extracting them.
    2. During a televised debate in 2011, when Perry was seeking the Republican nomination, he intended to list the Department of Energy among agencies he wanted to eliminate, but he could not remember its name.
    3. Although the Department of Energy manages the country’s nuclear weapons stockpile and runs American programs on nuclear nonproliferation and counterterrorism, Perry has no experience in any of these things. Before being Texas’s governor from 2000 to 2015, he was Texas’s agriculture commissioner. He holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Texas A&M University.
    4. While campaigning in 2015 for the Republican nomination, Perry called Trump a “barking carnival act” and a “cancer on conservatism.” But he campaigned energetically for Trump this year in the months leading up to the presidential election.

Bottom line: Another bizarre cabinet pick.

  • Environment Virginia Opposes Exxon CEO for Secretary of State

Richmond, VA —President-elect Trump has tapped Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his nominee for secretary of state. Environment Virginia State Director Sarah Bucci issued the following statement in response:

“We deserve a secretary of state who puts America’s wellbeing and future first. Rex Tillerson has spent his entire career putting the profits and power of Exxon Mobil first, over our health, our environment and the future that Virginia and America’s children will inherit. His company is one of the nation’s worst air and water polluters. It is one of the world’s leading contributors to global warming. It has a history of funding propaganda designed to mislead Americans about the science of climate change.

“While Virginia’s coast continues to face the threat of rising seas, we need a secretary of state, and an administration, who will keep America’s promise to slow global climate change and secure a better future for generations to come. With Tillerson’s nomination coming one day after the first anniversary of the Paris climate agreement, President-elect Trump is sending the worst possible signal at the worst possible moment: We’re entrusting the protection of America’s children from a future of catastrophic climate change to Big Oil.”
