  • Video: Fascinating, unusual speech by GOP member of VA House of Delegates cites Plato, Orwell, DeTocqueville, reflects on “great change in the constitution of this body” after many of his colleagues “swept away at the polls by the sovereign voice of the people in their ballots on November 7”

Uhhhhhh…..I think the meaning of what he said lies somewhere between “Nobody really knows what the Hell’s going on” and “Can’t we all just get along?” . . . . in what appears to be a plea for civility and partnership.
Definitely not the usual R rhetoric.

The more Trump reveals his ignorant xenophobic, racist, misogynist, hate-mongering heartlessness—-the more he resonates with the authoritarian-loving percentage of the demographic who share his worst attributes.
They are actually PROUD of him for his verbal and policy bigotry.

It can’t be repeated often enough: a sick electorate elects sick leadership.

    • Yep, I’m even seeing this among highly educated Trumpsters on one of my (attorney) FB friends’ pages. Scary shit.

And that is the electorate that is now having outsized control over the country. Compare Republicans’ silence on this to the original universal condemnation of his proposal of a Muslim ban as candidate. Republican Congress people are now afraid of offending Trump’s base and getting primaried. So now the price for staying in power for republicans is to appease racist white supremacists. And with republicans in total control of government Richard Spencer, Tucker Carlson and their like are essentially running this country.

Here is an interesting insight from Fire and Fury about what “fake news” means to Trump:

“Trump assumed everybody wanted his or her fifteen minutes and that everybody had a press strategy for when they got them. If you couldn’t get press directly for yourself, you became a leaker. There was no happenstance news, in Trump’s view. All news was manipulated and designed, planned and planted. All news was to some extent fake—he understood that very well, because he himself had faked it so many times in his career. This was why he had so naturally cottoned to the “fake news” label. “I’ve made stuff up forever, and they always print it,” he bragged.”
