Here are a few Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Thursday, January 5. Also, check out the video of opening statements by the five Democratic Arlington County Board candidates - Peter Fallon, Melissa Bondi, Terron Sims, Kim Klingler, and Libby Garvey - last night at the ACDC debate. Thanks for taping last night Lowell! I continue to be more impressed every day by Kim Klingler.

At the beginning of this race, I thought about staying out of it. But as I learned more about the 6, now 5 candidates running for the Democratic nomination, I decided that Kim is the leader we need and deserve on the County Board. She will be an independent-minded voice and bring a unique health and human services background. I'm proud to be a volunteer for her campaign.

Thank you for posting these videos Lowell (0.00 / 0)
As someone noted, the likelihood is that the winner of the upcoming caucus will be on the County Board for the next 10-15 years, so making a good choice here is very important.

Given the local dominance of the Democratic Party in Arlington, I wonder whether we might be better off in Arlington with a so-called "open primary" (like they have in Louisiana), which would be open to all voters and candidates - regardless of party affiliation - with the top two vote getters going on to the general election.

Also, I would be interested in the views of others on the Democratic candidates.  My initial instinct is to support Terron Sims, but that is not based on a deep understanding of each candidate's positions on various issues.
