Former Fairfax County School Board Member, Far-Right-Extremist Elizabeth Schultz, Is Now Running in Chesterfield County

The focus this fall, politically speaking, is for good reason on the key races which will determine control of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. Here in Virginia, that means competitive seats like VA02 (Democratic nominee Elaine Luria vs. Republican incumbent Jen Kiggans), VA01 (Democratic nominee Shannon Taylor vs. Republican incumbent Rob Wittman), VA05 (Democratic nominee Tom Perriello vs. Republican incumbent Tom Perriello). But Congress won’t be the only elections on the ballot this November; here in Virginia, there will also be a handful of races for local offices – county boards, school boards, etc.

Among those local races, one that jumped out at me is the election for School Board in Chesterfield County/Clover Hill District, which pits Christina Romers Brady against Republican Eizabeth Schultz  – a former Fairfax County School Board member (from 2012 to 2019, when she was defeated by Democrat Laura Jane Cohen) – and also a former Youngkin administration official (as Assistant Superintendent of Public Instruction).

Now, frequent readers of this website, will almost certainly recall Schultz, as we posted about her far-right lunacy, shenanigans, embarassments, etc. numerous times over the years. For some examples of that lunacy, etc., see below for “highlights” (actually, they’re all LOWlights) from her tenure on the Fairfax County School Board.

• She shared a white-nationalist symbol and then, when challenged, actively defended that action.
• She promoted election lies in 2016 (and 2020 and…).
• She advocated for people to watch racist, anti-LGBTQ Prager propaganda videos.
• She expressed support for a guy who argued that women who get abortions should be hanged
• She walked out of a vote on the Fairfax County Public Schools budget
• She expressed outrage  (in an email filled with “poor grammar and sentence structure as well as spelling mistakes”) at providing feminine hygiene products to elementary school girls
• On the radio show of far-right-extremist Sebastian Gorka, she ranted about “radicals who believe in identity politics” while bemoaning that “we can no longer have a Eurocentric history.”
• She had no clue how large the Fairfax County Schools bus fleet is.
• She babbled incoherently, ““If you are a ninth grader in biology who is a Muslim girl or a 10th grader in a history class who has great grandparents who were from the Holocaust, do you think that you have the ability to stand up there and say ‘no’ to a teacher or say ‘that’s not right that you’re teaching me that’ or that you’re delimiting my ability to offer my side of it? The school boards are not demanding both sides of an issue be presented.” She also complained, “I’m telling you as a school board member I am bullied; I am bullied mercilessly as a school board member, and I’m an adult who can stand up for myself.” And “Do you think that the parents who are immigrants to this country, who may have a certain ethnic or cultural or religious set of values, that they are able to access the content that’s difficult for my husband and I [sic] to navigate?”
• She unleashed unhinged tirades, such as this one, against George Soros, Rachel Maddow, “Liz” Warren, “globalism,” etc, etc.
• When asked about vaccinating kids, she said “the biggest problem is that we’re accepting students from around the world…”
• While serving in the Youngkin administration, she was scheduled to speak “at a fundraising reception for The Family Foundation of Virginia…a nonprofit organization which has been publicly outspoken against LGBTQIA+ youth” and has “fundraised thousands of dollars in support of anti-gay and anti-trans action in the Commonwealth.”

So yeah…yikes, this woman clearly should NOT be on a School Board, or involved in public education, at any level – ever. Unfortunately, as noted above, she’s now running to make the Chesterfield County School Board significantly worse, if she manages to win her election this November. Now, hopefully she won’t win, but it’s kind of a “purple” district, so we definitely can’t take it for granted.  Anyway, bottom line advice to Chesterfield County/Clover Hill District voters: under no circumstances should you vote for this person, as she was a disaster on the Fairfax County School Board as well as in the Youngkin administration, and there’s certainly no reason to think she’d be any better on the Chesterfield School Board!
