Andy Schmookler: The Challenger

This is a theme I’ve decided on for my campaign henceforth. (I’ve been talking about this for a while, but am only now starting to go public in print.) I’m wrapping my candidacy up in the theme: “The Challenger.”

The Challenger in the first, obvious sense of going up against the incumbent to take his seat away from him. I’m Rocky, in the first of Sly Stallone’s Rocky films. But, more importantly, I’m going to be the guy with the challenging message– a challenge for the conservatives/Republicans of the District, and a challenge for the liberals/Democrats as well.

I’ve come to the conclusion that only by being bold do I have a chance to achieve my goals in this campaign, and this label of “The Challenger” gives me license to be boldly challenging.

More on the nature of the challenges I’m planning to pose –to Bob Goodlatte, to conservative voters, to Democrats– in messages to come.

Andy Schmookler is running for Congress in the 6th Congressional District of Virginia, challenging the incumbent Congressman, Bob Goodlatte.  An award-winning author, political commentator, radio talk-show host, and teacher, Andy moved with his family to Shenandoah County in 1992.  He is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley.
