by Sheila Bynum-Coleman, Democratic nominee for House of Delegates in HD-62 (Chesterfield County, Hopewell City, Henrico County, Prince George County)
On Wednesday, June 12, candidate for Virginia House of Delegates Sheila Bynum-Coleman visited America’s Best Value Inn at 2126 Willis Road, Richmond Virginia, 23237.
A local advocate for low-income communities invited Mrs. Bynum-Coleman to observe poor conditions inside the units which are used for temporary and permanent housing, rather than hotel services.
The grounds contain a structure which is condemned, as confirmed by a Chesterfield County Police Officer, yet over thirty people live in the structure’s units. Residents of the main, non-condemned structure invited the group to tour one unit and the empty unit next door.
In a Facebook LIVE video found on Sheila Bynum-Coleman’s personal Facebook page, viewers can see significant mold buildup, cockroaches and structural damage. The residents confirm on video that they have filed complaints over a long period of time and are engaged in a lawsuit against the property’s owner.
