Yet another reason to be a huge Max Scherzer fan – he’s helping Virginia Democrats win back the General Assembly! As Del. Alfonso Lopez (pictured below with Scherzer, also with Del. Eileen Filler-Corn and Dem HD-40 candidate Dan Helmer) wrote on his Facebook page:
OK – I’ve got to admit – as far as political fundraisers go – my colleague Kathleen Murphy knocked it out of the park tonight for this baseball fan. The Guest of Honor was Washington National and future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer (yes…THAT Max Scherzer). He and I chatted about baseball, politics, hitting, the excellent Nats offseason (incl. likelihood of upgrading the hitting at 2nd Base), my college playing career, the idea that any former major league pitcher should be able to get a drop on their curveball well past their prime (…don’t ask…), and the ability to understand the difference between a quality baseball player in high school, college, the minors, and the Majors. To say I enjoyed it would be an understatement.
Max was an incredibly nice and funny guy.
