Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Monday, April 1.

- Erdogan Appears to Suffer Major Defeats in Turkey’s Two Biggest Cities (“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s party on Sunday was facing defeat in local elections in the Turkish capital, Ankara, and possibly even Istanbul, its largest city, a result that shook the nation as Mr. Erdogan suffered the first major electoral setback of his decade and a half in power.” Good.)

- Ex-Defense secretary’s wife says photo of her with Biden misleading (“…in a blog post published Sunday on Medium, Carter wrote that Biden’s display of affection toward her in 2015 was appreciated, as she was “uncharacteristically nervous” after slipping on some ice upon her arrival at the Pentagon earlier in the day.”)
- The Green New Deal aims to get buildings off fossil fuels. These 6 places have already started. (California, NY City, Washington DC, Washington State, Massachusetts…all run by DEMOCRATS, not climate-science-denying Republicans.)

- John Oliver blasts moronic Fox News for claiming Trump is innocent of anything he’s ever been accused of
- After a Two-Week Absence, Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News Return Was Anything But Quiet (“The embattled Justice with Judge Jeanine host and Trump cheerleader resurfaced Saturday with fire and brimstone for those who thought the Mueller report would doom the president.”)
- Intelligence report appeared to endorse view leftwing protesters were ‘terrorists’ (“Experts say the report produced before the Charlottesville rally mischaracterizes the dynamics of the street violence”)
- In Virginia, a strange state of stasis (This is a fascinating example about how a different headline can give a completely different spin to an article. In this case, on the front page of the WaPo, it reads “In Virginia, a hobbled executive branch begins to return to the public eye.” But when you click on that, it says, “In Virginia, a strange state of stasis.” Which are, of course, VERY different views of the same news. Kind of bizarre, really. As for the content, I agree with Del. Lamont Bagby about Ralph Northam – “In light of his decision [not to step down], we have but one alternative, and that is to work with him to make sure we are accomplishing the goals set out by our caucus.”)
- Northam’s latest request for housing money will again test Virginia legislature (“Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) will ask state lawmakers on Wednesday to add $4 million to an housing trust fund, another chance to measure whether long-standing concerns about affordability in the Washington suburbs is starting to spread to the rest of the commonwealth.”)
- In a last-ditch effort to stop climate regulations, Virginia Republicans try legislating by budget amendment (Republicans will, apparently, do ANYTHING to kill the planet. Note that these nihilists and fossil fuel industry puppets don’t offer a serious plan of their own to tackle the greatest threat humans have ever faced.)
