Filler-Corn matches funds to combat Republican leadership NRA donation

In response to the NRA’s $200K donation to Republican candidates, House Democratic Leader Eileen Filler-Corn matched the amount to elect a Democratic majority

Increasing their previous 2019 spending to Republicans by eight times, the NRA yesterday – just 57 days after the Republican leadership shut down the special session on gun violence prevention in less than 90 minutes – donated $200K to House Republican leadership. Leader Eileen Filler-Corn did not give up an inch on this cynical attempt to shut down any further debate on gun violence prevention by immediately matching dollar-for-dollar their donation for the House Democratic Caucus, donating $200K.

Leader Filler-Corn issued the below statement:

“After the egregious actions of the GOP this summer in failing to address Gun Violence prevention – walking away after just 90 minutes – it is no surprise the NRA has continued to support Speaker Cox and his Republican colleagues.  Democratic control of the Virginia House of Delegates is my top priority. We will work on behalf of all Virginians and get to work on gun violence prevention and other important issues across our Commonwealth”

Leader Filler-Corn is looking forward to a hard fought victory this November, but she is most looking forward to a Democratic Majority that will finally take crucial actions to address the gun violence epidemic in this Commonwealth and save lives, as many other critical issues the people of Virginia have been urging the legislature to pass. The donation is welcome news to Leader Filler-Corn’s fellow Democrats and residents across Virginia.

Delegate Chris Hurst said that the donation from Leader Filler-Corn will have a big impact in reaching a Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates.

“The contribution from the NRA  is unprecedented and is larger than the their last eight years of cash donations to Republicans combined. The message the Republican leadership is sending is very clear: they are scared. They know Democrats are in their strongest position in a generation to take the majority in the legislature,” said Del. Hurst. “Leader Filler-Corn’s investment in a Democratic majority will help our Delegates and candidates talk to voters about the most pressing issues facing our Commonwealth.”

Filler-Corn gave the funds via her Energized for Change (EFC) PAC, created to build a Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates.
