Virginia Delegate Danica Roem Endorses Joe Biden

“We need [Biden’s] empathetic leadership more now than ever to unite and create a more equitable, compassionate, just, equal and inclusive country,” Roem says

Today, Virginia House of Delegates Member Danica Roem announced she is endorsing Joe Biden for President of the United States. Roem, who represents Virginia’s 13th House of Delegates district, made history in 2018 as the first openly transgender person to be elected to and serve in a state legislature and again in 2019 as the first transgender person to be re-elected to one.

“Today I am endorsing Vice President Joe Biden for President of the United States. I am committed to joining Vice President Biden, Senator Bernie Sanders and Democrats as we unite to take back the White House to create systemic change that puts the American people first,” said Delegate Danica Roem.

“In 2017 and 2019, Joe Biden endorsed my campaign and helped my colleagues and me win our Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates for the first time in 20 years. As a result, our majorities in the House and Senate delivered major reforms in 2020 for transportation infrastructure, healthcare, climate change, civil rights, voting rights, criminal justice, organized labor, the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and we’re just getting started.

“We are in the midst of national crisis and we need leaders who operate using vetted facts, listen to scientists instead of threatening them, promote democracy instead of undermining it and restore the people’s confidence in our institutions of government and society.

“By electing Joe Biden and Democratic majorities in Congress, we will build up America instead of tearing down each other, while developing critical infrastructure to prevent the next crisis. With Democratic leadership, we will pass the Equality Act, raise the minimum wage to $15 and put an end to singling out and stigmatizing the people our leaders are elected to serve.

“With Democratic leadership, we will ensure a majority of members on the Supreme Court are dedicated to inclusive civil rights protections for all Americans regardless of who they are, not despite it.

“I’m voting for Joe Biden because I know he will prioritize constituent service and take care of all Americans, not just those who agree with him. We need his empathetic leadership more now than ever to unite and create a more equitable, compassionate, just, equal and inclusive country.

“Let’s go win. Together.”
