314 Action Fund Announces Additional VA-05 Broadcast and Cable Investment in Response to GOP Panic Spending
New $1 Million Investment Will Counter Congressional Leadership Fund’s Attempts to Prop Up Bob Good’s Candidacy
Philadelphia — Today, 314 Action Fund announced an additional investment of $1 million in broadcast and cable advertising in response to reports that the Congressional Leadership Fund is pouring resources into Virginia’s fifth congressional district to prop up Republican Bob Good’s candidacy.
According to Politico, the Congressional Leadership fund has reserved “$750,000 for an open seat in central Virginia where Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-Va.) lost renomination” to help revive Bob Good’s struggling campaign in one of the region’s most closely watched U.S. House races. Cook Political Report recently changed the VA-05 race’s rating from “lean Republican” to “toss up.”
314 Action Fund’s new million-dollar investment will supplement its broadcast and cable programs in the Charlottesville and Roanoke media markets as well as on cable in the Richmond media market through the general election, investments which had already totalled over one million dollars. 314 Action Fund ads – “Always,” “Bad,” “Cheating,” “Not,” and “Vulnerable” – have sought to inform voters in VA-05 about Bob Good’s management of a predatory lending operation, which was fined and forced to repay millions for cheating working families; his opposition to plans to provide paid sick leave for frontline workers and help small businesses keep paying their employees; his siding with special interests opposing bipartisan COVID relief; and his health care plan, which would boost insurance company profits while ending coverage for thousands of Virginians with pre-existing conditions.
“Republicans are scrambling to save Bob Good’s failing campaign, but Virginians recognize the need for scientific expertise in the U.S. House, and no amount of Republican spending can change that,” said John Sweeney, spokesperson for 314 Action Fund. “This investment from the CLF is further proof that Dr. Cameron Webb’s candidacy is a threat to the Republican leadership’s anti-science agenda. The people of VA-05 deserve a representative who will champion policies based on facts and evidence.”
314 Action Fund is powered by a grassroots community of over two million people working to elect scientists, doctors, and STEM professionals who will use science and facts to address our most pressing issues like climate change and health care. In 2018, we played a pivotal role in flipping the U.S. House of Representatives and elected nine Democratic scientists to the House and Senate, as well as over 100 to key legislative districts. In 2020, 314 Action Fund will continue working to elect science leaders and defeat climate deniers in Congress and legislatures across the country.
